Food and Farming
We all need food to survive but many of us give
relatively little thought to where our food actually comes from,
or how it is produced. In the last forty years, the world population
has more than doubled, placing great pressure on farming to produce
enough food to meet its needs. Erosion, water shortages, soil and
water pollution and declining yields are all signs that, in many
places, the environment can no longer support current farming systems.
In such a world there is an urgent need to change farming systems
to ensure that in the future there is food for all.
This book considers examples from across the world that show there
are alternative, sustainable ways to provide food for everyone,
everywhere, without further harming the environment. This book also
shows how you can play an active part in ensuring a more sustainable
future.
